Engagement Director for Senior Living

We are currently seeking a dynamic, energetic, and creative Engagement Director to lead our activities department and bring joy, purpose, and connection to the lives of our residents.

The Grove at Countryside is a brand-new, premier luxury assisted living community operated by Starling, a trusted owner-operator of multiple communities across the Southeast. Based in Jacksonville, FL, Starling is committed to excellence in senior living through personalized care and innovative lifestyle programming.

Position Summary

The Engagement Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a full, enriching calendar of lifestyle programs that promote physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being for our residents. This individual will lead a team of engagement assistants, collaborate closely with the Executive Director and regional leadership, and ensure that all programs meet the mission and core values of Starling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead a diverse range of lifestyle activities for residents across all levels of care.
  • Create engaging experiences for holidays, special occasions, and community events.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly event calendars and community newsletters.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage volunteer programs and partnerships with outside organizations.
  • Supervise Engagement assistants in accordance with company policies.
  • Oversee the planning and facilitation of mixed group activities and off-campus outings.
  • Conduct resident interest surveys and adjust programming based on feedback.
  • Promote public relations initiatives and foster community involvement.
  • Ensure communication and activity displays are updated throughout the campus.
  • Support staff development through training, performance reviews, and team leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of the Engagement team.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Associate degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Education, Gerontology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in activity planning or engagement roles, preferably in senior living or healthcare.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate and connect with residents, families, and team members.
  • Creativity in planning and executing meaningful experiences.
  • Proficiency in technology and tools used to support scheduling, communication, and program documentation.
  • Passion for enriching the lives of seniors through purposeful engagement.
